যে word গুলো কোনো কাজ করা বোঝাই তাদের verb বলে । তাদের আমরা doing/action words ও বলে থাকি।
For example: Moti digs the ground.

Verb-কে আমরা সাধারণত 2 ভাগে ভাগ করে থাকি – Transitive Verbs and Intransitive Verbs.

1. Transitive Verbs: যেসব verb গুলোতে অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করার জন্য object এর প্রয়োজন হয় সেইসব verb দের Transitive Verbs বলে। Subject দ্বারা করা verb object এ স্থানান্তরিত হয়।

Subject object র জন্য কিছু করে।

Note: এখানে Verb received, painted এবং gave এদের Nouns prize, walls of my room এর প্রয়োজন এবং ten rupees অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করছে। বাক্য c তে Verb gave এর 2 টি Object- him এবং ten rupees; him হল Indirect Object এবং ten rupees হল Direct Object.

2. Intransitive Verbs:

যেসব verb এর অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করতে object এর প্রয়োজন হয়না তাদের Intransitive Verbs বলে।
Intransitive Verbs হল 2 রকমের Verbs of action এবং Verbs of being. laugh, come, talk হলো Verbs of action.

For example : The doorbell rings.

Note: Am, are, was, were, become, became হলো Verbs of being. এরা noun এর অবস্থা বোঝাই। এরা Subject কে sentence এর সঙ্গে জুড়ে দেয়।

For example:
Heena is the tallest girl in the class.

নীচের বাক্য গুলো পড়:

a. The baby sleeps.
b. Aditya laughs.
c. The horse runs fast.
d. Many buildings in Lucknow are old and beautiful.
e. Did Suman call you?

Note: এখানে sleeps, laughs এবং runs হলো Verbs of action যেখানে are এবং did হলো Verbs of being. এই বাক্য গুলোতে অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করার জন্য verb গুলোর object এর কোনো প্রয়োজন হয়না। তারা নিজেরাই অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করছে। এই Verb গুলোকে বলা হয় Intransitive Verbs.
